On July 21, the White House recently praised Artificial Intelligence companies like Google, OpenAI, and Microsoft for being committed to the cause of making AI technology a safe and transparent haven for humans. 

In addition, the Biden administration also applauded companies like Amazon, Anthropic, Meta, and Inflection committed to the cause of developing innovative AI technologies.

The White House highlighted how AI companies have responsibly ensured the safety of the products they offer and for committing to harnessing AI’s true potential while flaunting its highness.

Google’s President of Global Affairs, Kent Walker, says that AI has the potential to become the next big thing, but it requires collective collaboration.

He claims that the application of AI can solve the major problems faced by society. In today’s time, AI can empower various technologies such as maps, search engines, translations, and more day-to-day services used by us humans.

He further claims that AI has made it easier to solve issues like forecasting floods, limiting carbon emissions by restricting stop-and-go traffic, and improving healthcare by answering health-related questions with the utmost accuracy. 

In addition, he indicated the satisfaction of making various AI companies come together to commit to a mutual cause and ensured complete support from Google in terms of sharing relevant information and best practices.

Other announcements made by the White House

While the White House made several announcements, among them was the release relating to the launch of security testing systems for AI while sharing best practices in AI safety. 

The release also stated the investment in cybersecurity, insider threat safeguards, and allowing third-party entities to report all sorts of vulnerabilities in the AI models.

OpenAI’s Vice-President of Global Affairs, Anna Makanju, claims that top management around the world is thoroughly examining new rules for systems.

The Bipartisan United States lawmakers have proposed a bill to create an official body for regulating AI to address and manage the growing concerns regarding the widespread adoption of AI. 

The main motive behind proposing this idea was to establish rules and regulations in the AI industry. The act focuses on the identification of potential risks related to AI models, with the view of shining a spotlight on the importance of limiting the potential harm from unregulated AI.

The Biden Administration has disclosed that it is making a continuous effort to collaborate with its global partners like India, Canada, Australia, Italy, and more to lay the groundwork for an international substructure for AI.

As per Brad Smith, the President of Microsoft, the company advocates for and commits to the White House’s commitments towards AI by providing the required resources.

Apart from this, global leaders like the United Nations Secretary-General have shown their distress towards the malpractices related to the use of generative AI and deep fake technologies in conflicted zones.

The Vice-President of the United States, Kamala Harris, in May, held a conference with leading AI companies to lay bricks for AI development. Moreover, she also announced an investment of $140 million towards the development and innovation of AI.
